SA+PR™ - Stock Analysis + Portfolio Review™
for Macintosh, Windows & Linux

SA+PR- The Story
As individual investors ourselves, we
were familiar with, and believed in the benefits of a Fundamental
Analysis with respect to stock investment. We were looking for a fast and
easy way of carrying out a comprehensive Fundamental Analysis, but
at the time there was no software available to do this that ran natively
on the Macintosh platform. As a work around, some Mac owners were purchasing
the available software that ran on Windows, purchasing Windows emulation
software for the Mac, and running the Windows stock analysis software
within Windows emulator software on the Mac. Others were simply purchasing
another computer that was Windows based. These solutions were far from
elegant, and neither approach particularly appealed to us.
Why couldn't someone write a similar
program for the Macintosh? In the early part of 2003, it seemed
to us that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon, and so the idea
for the program was born. By mid 2003, we had a proof of concept, and
from then until the public release in the the fall of 2004, we were
developing and testing the program. Since then, with feedback from our users,
we have been continually improving and adding to the program.
Originally, our intent was to make the
program available only for the Mac. And in fact, we spent little time
looking at a Windows version. It wasn't until the program was nearing
completion, and we compiled it for windows using REALbasic's cross compiler
option, that we realized we actually had a fully functional version
for Windows as well. We later discovered that we had a fully functional
Linux version as well. To place credit where it is due, this is a testament
to the REALbasic IDE, and its cross platform compilation ability.
So, what started out as an idea for the Mac, has turned
into SA+PR(TM), Stock Analysis
+ Portfolio Review(TM) for the Macintosh,
Windows and Linux platforms, the only program of its kind on all of
these platforms.
...but the
story doesn't end there. Since v1.0.8 not only have we made minor
improvements, but we have been busy fulfilling requests for
ADDED capabilities.
v1.2.0 gained the ability to download
.ssg files directly from the NAIC's website (www.BetterInvesting.org),
via a user's site registered membership number and password.
v1.4.0 gained the ability to retrieve financial
data for USA and Canadian public companies from the internet. with this
ability! Retrieved data
can be saved in standard .ssg file format. SA+PR also retrieves stock
symbols for public companies in 12 countries.
v1.5.0 gained the ability to fetch detailed current
stock quote info from the net. See Last, Change, Volume, High, Low, Bid,
Ask, among others. Also get a chart of intraday or historical stock
prices and volumes, from 1 day up to 10 years. Even plot multiple
price graphs on the same chart.
v1.6.0 gained the ability to perform stock screens
for Value, Growth, Income or Quality. SA+PR can perform 10 categories of
Fundamental Stock Screens. Screen for Small to Large Cap companies that
are Fast Growing but Low Priced. Screen for High Yielding companies listed
in the DJIA or S&P. Screen for Profitable but Undervalued companies. Screen
for companies that represent good Value. Screen for GARP companies. Or avoid
the crowd and perform a Contrarian screen.
v2.0.0 is a Major Upgrade that has warranted a large version number jump and name
change, to suit its added functionality. The name has been changed from SASS
- Stock Analysis and Selection Software, to SA+PR™ - Stock Analysis + Portfolio Review™.
In addition to the stock analysis and selection features that existed previously,
a Portfolio Review module has been seamlessly incorporated into the program.
The name change reflects this additional functionality.
- Quarterly and Annual Company Woksheets have been added. For the quarterly
data, up to 20 quarters of data can be viewed, and see graphs for % Change
in the Trailing 4 Quarters for Sales, EPS & PTP.
- A built in database allows users to Create or Modify Holdings. Create
New holdings, Update existing holdings, or Delete existing holdings. To speed
up the creation of holdings, users can first retrieve Company data from the
Net, and then click on the "Fill Fields From SA+PR" button to have the program
automatically fill in most of the required data.
- Holdings can be viewed using unique Portfolio Names input by the user.
The Portfolio Names allow the user to Evaluate Portfolios. View a Portfolio;
By Size, By Sector, or By Holding. Pie Charts for each allow a user to quickly
see if a Portfolio is well diversified, or too concentrated.
- Employ Defensive and Offensive Portfolio Management techniques
by viewing a Portfolio's Quality and Value. Users can even edit Buy/Sell
Parameters, to tailor them to individual preferences.

or subscription fees are required.
